Intermediate Football Championship-Clara suffered their second defeat of the championship when we were beaten in Clonbullogue on a score line of 2-9 to 1-6 played in Geashill last Friday evening. The team was as follows John Buckley, Sean Nolan, John Flattery, Noel Buckley, Marius Stones, Alan Dunne, Kieran O'Meara (0-1), Jimmy Taylor (1-1), Myles Bracken, Mark Deehan, Darren Scanlon, Pa Smith (0-1), Mark Meehan and Barry Cushen (0-2) .Enda Dunne (0-1)came on for Myles Bracken.
Clara played Kilclonfert in Balinagar in the first round of the 2010 Intermediate championship Saturday the 29th of May. On what was a wet night, Kilclonfert took an early lead going 1-2 to 1 point up after about 12 minutes, with the Clara point coming from a Barry Cushen free. Kilclonfert then got another goal to increase their lead. Another free by Barry Cushen narrowed the gap to six points with about five minutes of the first half to go and this was the last score of the half to leave the score 2-2 to 2 points in favour of Kilclonfert. There was no score for the opening 10 minutes of the second half before Kilclonfert got 1-2 in quick succession to leave the score at 3-4 to 2 points. Kilclonfert then got another goal to go 4-4 to 2 points up entering the last ten minutes. A point by Kieran O'Meara together with 3 Kilclonfert points left the score at 4-7 to 3 points. Kilclonfert then got the final 2 points of the match to leave the final score at 4-9 to 3 points. Clara Intermediate footballers played St. Rynaghs in Ferbane on Sunday last the 8th of August 2010. Clara lost on a scoreline of Clara 0-8 to St. Rynaghs 2-18. The Clara team was J Buckley, E Dunne, S Nolan, L Monaghan, D Coyne, J Taylor, S Grennan, M Meehan, K O'Meara, K Mannering, M Deehan (0-1), B Cushen (0-1), J Kinahan, C Flanagan (0-6, frees) and P Moran. Subs used, W Flanagan for J Buckley, N McEvoy for J Kinahan. St. Rynaghs got off to a good start going 1-4 to no score up after 10 minutes before a C Flanagan free gave Clara their first score. Rynaghs got the next 2 points to leave them 1-6 to 0-1 up with 5 minutes left in the half. A C Flanagan free with 4 Rynaghs points left the half time score 1-10 to 0-2 in favour of St Rynaghs.
St. Rynaghs got the opening point of the 2nd half. C Flanagan scored a point from a free before St. Rynaghs got 3 unanswered points to leave the score 1-14 to 0-3 after 510 minutes of the half. A St. Rynaghs point together with a B Cushen point and 2 C Flanagan frees left the put St. Rynaghs 1-15 to 0-6 ahead mid way through the half. St. Rynaghs got another point before Clara got further scores through C Flanagan and M Deehan. St. Rynaghs got a goal and a point in the closing minutes to leave the end score 2-18 to 0-8.
Clara Intermediate footballers played Raheen in Clara last Thursday 12th of August. Clara conceded a couple of early goals in the first 5 mins before Alan Kidney got our first point. Raheen then scored another goal and together with a couple of points they les by 3-5 to 0-1 after 10 mins. After 20 mins Raheen increased their lead to 4-7 to 0-2 with the Clara point coming from a Kieran O'Meara free. In the last few mins of the half Raheen scored another 1-2 to leave them 5-9 to 0-2 at half time. Clara outscored Raheen by 3 points to 2 in the opening 10 mins of the 2nd half with the Clara scores coming from 2 Alan Kidney frees and a point by Jimmy Taylor. Barry Cushen then sent over a good point for Clara before Raheen got 3 unanswered points with 10 mins left in the match. Alan Kidney then scored another free before Keir Mannering scored a good point from 40 yards. The end score ended up as 5-14 to 0-8 in favour of Raheen. Clara intermediate footballers played Shannonbridge last Wednesday the 1st of September in Ferbane. Clara were beaten by Shannonbridge last Wednesday night on a score line of 2-15 to 0-9. Shannonbridge built a commanding lead in the 1st half going in at half time 1-9 to 0-4 ahead. Clara missed a penalty in the second half, which might have brought a recovery, but Shannonbridge went on to run out convincing winners.
