SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP - Saturday
Senior Football Championship-Clara Played Gracefield and won on a score line of Clara 0-14 to Gracefield 0-4. After the first ten minutes Clara led by 0-3 to 0-1 with T Deehan getting two points and a point from M Mitchell. Scott Brady then pointed for Clara before G Guilfoyle got another to leave Clara 0-5 to 0-1 up mid-way through the first half. Another T Deehan point and a M Mitchell 45 put Clara 0-7 to 0-1 up after 20 minutes. A P Deehan point and a point from J Reynolds put Clara 0-9 to 0-1 ahead entering the last minutes of the half before a G Guilfoyle point left the half time score 0-10 to 0-1 in favour of Clara. After 10 minutes of the second half a Gracefield point cancelled by a T Deehan free left Clara 0-11 to 0-2 up mid-ways through the half. Clara played Shamrocks in O’Connor Park in the first round of the 2010 Senior Championship. Clara got off to a good start going 1-2 to no score up, with a good goal being scored by Thomas Deehan. The two teams shared the next few points to leave Clara 1-4 to 3 points up with a few minutes to go in the first half. Shamrocks then got the last 3 points of the half to leave Clara leading by 1 point at half time on a score line of 1-4 to 6 points heading for the dressing rooms. There was no score for the opening 8 minutes of the second half before Ross Brady got a point for Clara. Thomas Deehan then got the next score of the match to leave Clara leading by 3 points. The teams then shared the next few points to leave Clara leading 1-7 to 7 points going into the last ten minutes. A Shamrocks point together with two more Thomas Deehan points left Clara leading by 4 points on a score line of 1-9 to 8 points. Clara fought off a tough Shamrocks challenge in the wind up the final minutes of the match to win the game by 4 points.
