Shamrocks 1-03 Clara 5-06
On a beautfiul Sunday morning Shamrocks played host to Clara at Rahan GAA pitch. As always Clara brought a large squad of 30 under 10's to this match. Clara got off to a slightly better start that their hosts with a 1-1 lead to zero after ten minutes. However Shamrocks were not going to take this lying down, and fought back bravely to narrow the lead at half-time.
Todays match proved to be one of the tightest most physical matches yet for this young Clara team, but they again dug deep to overcome their opponents in the second half. Carl Stewart and Darren Fleming were outstanding in midfield with Martin Fleming and Leon Egan totally dominant in the half back and full back line. Clara made fine use of the wings in the match, drawing their markers out and allowing the midfield to drive the ball through to the full forward and centre fowards. Kevin O'Meara gained tremendous advantage from the supply scoring 3-01 on the day.
Colm Doyle covered every blade of grass, again helping to create the space which allowed Clara dominate the game in the second half. Clara's drive and commitment was excellent throughout and this began to show in a few tired legs. Alan Gavin and Glen Cunningham were two of the subs who came in and who showed their eagerness to take the game to their opponents. Man of the match was awarded to Adam Dolan who tackled and won ball at every opportunity and helped drive the team forward.
Overall this was a hard-fought team performance from a young squad who have five consecutive victories to date.
