Senior Football Championship

Semi-Final 27th September 2009

Clara 2-15 Erin Rovers 0-4

“Sharp shooting stars, fire Clara into Final”

2 goals and five points is enough to win many a senior championship game (including a final), but with Clara achieving this score-line with no reply after just ten minutes, you have to wonder how strong a test this match was for our lads on the way to meet Rhode.

That been said, we cant take away from the lightning start Clara achieved with their forwards on fire straight from the throw-in. Too many times we've been slow out of the blocks, lets hope we can repeat the feat in the final against Rhode.

Goals from Eoin Brady (who had one of his finest matches to date), Thomas Deehan and points from each of our forwards saw Clara completely over-run a clearly shell-shocked Erin Rovers team.

Clara's movement, teamwork and scoring was a joy to watch although the opposition weaker than expected.  Half-time was reached with the remarkable scoreline of 2-10 to 0-0 in favour of Clara.

Although Erin Rovers eventually breached the Clara defence with four points in the second half, Clara took the foot of the gas to cruise home with a final tally of 2-15 with all scores from play.

The lads performed well as a unit and clearly were enjoying their football.  A number of changes were made to keep the team fresh, including a change of goal-keeper with eight minutes to go.

Expectations are high amongst supporters and team alike in advance of next Sunday's final against the evergreen Rhode, but sharp minds and sharp tackling will be equally as important as our sharp-shooting to ensure we bring the Dowling Cup back to The Square on Sunday evening.

Best of luck lads!
